Padilla’s contributions to WMC Board will allow for advancing conversations around importance of mining in Minnesota, nationwide

St. Paul, Minn., February 08, 2021 – Twin Metals Minnesota is proud to announce that Julie Padilla, Twin Metals’ Chief Regulatory Officer, has been elected to the Women’s Mining Coalition (WMC) Board of Directors.

“I’m honored to have the opportunity to work with the Women’s Mining Coalition to expand the conversations necessary for education around the importance of mining in our country,” Padilla said. “It’s also incredibly important to me that we continue to diversify the mining industry and serving as a leader for both WMC and Twin Metals allows for advancing that work.”

As Chief Regulatory Officer, Julie Padilla leads Twin Metals Minnesota’s efforts to move the company’s proposed copper-nickel mine through environmental review and permitting by aligning legal, environmental, public relations and governmental relations activities. Prior to joining Twin Metals, Padilla worked to advance financing for energy efficiency and renewable energy projects; as a partner at a Minneapolis law firm; and in various roles with state and local governments.

“Julie brings a range of valuable experience to the WMC Board,” said Sara Thorne, WMC President. “We’re looking forward to working together to advocate for a robust and innovative domestic mining industry.”

Padilla has been an active member of WMC since joining the Twin Metals team in early 2019. Her role on the WMC Board of Directors will include development of advocacy, educational and research materials, in addition to working with WMC leadership to promote a modern mining industry focused on innovation, safety and environmental protection. At a time when advancing U.S. mining projects is more critical than ever, Padilla looks forward to having an impact on conversations around mining at both a national and local level.

“Strengthening our domestic supply chain, creating much-needed jobs and ensuring we can transition to a green economy future are key issues at the forefront of our national discourse,” Padilla said. “I’m excited to serve on the WMC board to help elevate the important connection mining has to all of these issues, in addition to highlighting the significance of the untapped mineral resources we have here in Minnesota.”
