Local View: Additional Environmental Study Unnecessary for Copper Nickel Mining

Mining has a long history in Ely and on the Iron Range, contributing to Northeastern Minnesota’s economy and accounting for almost a third of its gross regional product.

My education at the University of Minnesota Duluth taught me that conservation involves our decisions today to ensure there will be resources to fill the societal needs of tomorrow. Minnesota has abundant natural resources, including forests, wildlife, recreation, and minerals. All should be evaluated when decisions are made whether to develop an area.
