Julie Padilla Joins Twin Metals Minnesota as Chief Regulatory Officer

ST. PAUL, Minn., April 10, 2019 – Twin Metals Minnesota LLC (TMM) is pleased to announce the appointment of Julie Padilla as Chief Regulatory Officer (CRO). An attorney with more than 20 years of experience in government and regulatory affairs, she will oversee submission of TMM’s Mine Plan of Operation (MPO) later this year to state and federal agencies.

Padilla has held leadership positions in government, private industry, law firms and non-profits. As CRO, she will oversee all legal, regulatory, environmental and government relations activities during the environmental review and permitting processes required for the proposed copper-nickel mine nine miles southeast of Ely in northeastern Minnesota.

“We are thrilled to have Julie join us as CRO as we approach this critical stage in the development of our modern, world-class mine,” said Twin Metals Minnesota Chief Executive Officer Kelly Osborne. “Her broad experience in regulatory and environmental issues complements our commitment to the highest standards of compliance and mine safety.”

“I’m excited to join the Twin Metals team and be a part of a project that has so much potential to promote economic development and create Minnesota jobs,” said Padilla. “I also cherish our state’s natural resources and strongly believe in the processes enacted over the decades to protect them. I look forward to presenting the details of our proposal to regulators and all Minnesotans.”

Padilla most recently served as Vice President of Market Development for Renovate America, a national provider of home improvement financing for energy efficiency, renewable energy, and resiliency projects. A former Shareholder at Larkin Hoffman Attorneys, she also served as Committee Administrator in the Minnesota Senate. Padilla received her bachelor’s degree in biology and ecology from Winona State University and her law degree from Mitchell Hamline School of Law. She served on the St. Paul Planning Commission from 2011 to 2016 and co-chaired the Snelling-Midway Community Advisory Committee, which oversaw the development of the Minnesota United Major League Soccer stadium beginning in 2015.

The Twin Metals Minnesota mine is projected to bring 650 direct full-time jobs and 1,300 spinoff jobs to residents of Ely, Babbitt, and elsewhere in northeastern Minnesota.
